Church basement aesthetics:

  • Hot cocoa in a Styrofoam cup but there’s not enough room in the cup for a full packet of hot cocoa so it’s either too strong or too weak
  • A piano that hasn’t been played since the 1980s
  • A room that’s always closed and has adults talking behind it but you’re not quite sure who they are or if they ever leave
  • Donuts that you’re not allowed to eat
  • Scented markers and multicolored craft sticks in an old basket
  • Veggie tales on VHS and two rolling tvs on ancient tv stands
  • A room behind another room that has christmas decorations in it
  • This table:

  • that one bitch who’s always always wearing tights and a dress even though the basement never gets above like 55 degrees
  • Dusty ass bibles and one lone dusty ass hymnal
  • Old programs for concerts, baptisms, events, and VBS printed with black ink on colored 8.5″x11″ paper folded in half
  • Little acrylic bead craft projects in the shapes of lizards or cats that some girl made at church camp and forgot to take home
  • Glitter but not in the joyful gay way
  • Moms in fleece

This is fascinating to me because I never went to church, I’m not a Christian, and yet I can so clearly imagine this it’s like I was there

avatar was like the highest grossing movie of all time and yet its only impact on culture was to confuse people talking about the last airbender

Marvel never showing off Rhodey’s rocket science skill, taking away Sam’s superhuman powers, white washing Wanda and Pietro, making homecoming about peter instead of miles replacing Ganke with Ned, luring black people into watching Infinity war for T'Challa and Wakandans then killing most of them on screen, making Monica Rambeau a literal child when Carol becomes Captain Marvel is the kind of racism in media you could play as unintentional when you look at them seperately but really becomes a disguisting pile of shit when you piece all the instances together.

And giving BP an award won’t make me forget any of this.

Like y'all literally killed him a moment later and the Russos even admited that T'Challa was plan B in case they wouldn’t get spiderman but then got to entangled in the story to write him out again.

Fuck them

I think one of the things that makes the Punisher Netflix series so good, apart from great writing, an awesome soundtrack and great action, is all the emotional depth and intimacy balancing the violence and darkness

Frank Castle is a killer but he also spends his time helping raise somebody else’s kids because they can’t, he calls all these men from his unit family, he doesn’t hesitate to hug and hold and press his forehead against forehead and relay care and protection through physical contact – not just with women and children but with other adult men – because for all that his character and this entire show is full of blood and gore and death, Frank doesn’t push people away or treat them like shit unless it’s literally the only way to keep them alive; otherwise he’s sweet and kind to the people he trusts.

The reason he’s such a compelling person is because he acts like a person, and not some nihilistic dark murder fantasy of your average angry dudebro. A person who’s violent, but still cares, whose entire motivation stems from love that he’s still pouring onto others even after all he’s lost.

It’s genuinely amazing to me that a Mediocre White Man can spend 20 years creating shows and movies that treat bigotry as a joke, but because the motherfucker donated some money to LGBTQIA groups and stumped for Bernie, he’s hailed as a progressive.

Seth MacFarlane created shows that dealt heavily in anti-black racism, antisemitism, ableism, Ace Ventura-levels of transphobia, rampant and vicious misogyny, normalized rape culture, abuse as a joke, pedophilia as a joke, and violent Islamophobia. He actually fought really hard for a scene where Quagmire rapes Marge Simpson to be aired on live TV – FOUGHT FOR IT, TOOTH AND NAIL – and is still angry that FOX wouldn’t let him get away with it.

He taught generations of young white guys that this shit was okay to say and believe because it was “just a joke” – hell, I’ll bet there’s a good Venn diagram between Family Guy fans and Trump supporters – and anyone who criticized him was just some boring, humorless PC police asshole.

And now people want to call his poorly-written, aggressively bigoted shit “satire” and give him brownie points for *appearing* progressive instead of actually being progressive.

Like, please demand more from your progressive allies than some fucking rich, white jackass who screams “Bigotry is cool! (Kidding)” in all his work, and does the bare fucking minimum every few years to be progressive.
